Thinking about planting Japanese Knotweed, Giant Knotweed, or Silver Lace Vine in your garden? Please reconsider. Even "non-invasive" cultivars can contribute to the general problem of knotweed invasion, because hybridization can occur. Also, consider planting native species instead!

    10/31/03: The article "Vegetative regeneration in invasive Reynoutria (Polygonaceae) taxa: the determinant of invasibility at the genotype level" was recently published in the American Journal of Botany.
    10/31/03: The article "Sexual reproduction in the invasive species Fallopia japonica (Polygonaceae)" was published earlier this year in the American Journal of Botany. Please if you would like a reprint.
    5/19/03: This article about clonal growth of F. japonica in its native habitat is in the June 2003 issue of Molecular Ecology.
    2003: An article by Zika and Jacobson, in the journal Rhodora, discusses the hybrid that results from crosses between Japanese knotweed and giant knotweed (Fallopia x bohemica, here referred to as Polygonum x bohemicum).
